Growing up in the small farming area of Macheke, I always felt a strong sense of belonging. The community was more than just a place to live; it was a family that supported and nurtured my passion for agriculture. As I ventured out into the world to pursue my dreams, I knew that one day, I would return to this farming community with smart services to boost farming.
A Rescue Mission to Macheke
Yesterday, we traveled all the way from Harare to Macheke on a rescue mission. A Macheke farmer, Mr. Richard—whom I grew up knowing as one of the best commercial farmers in the area—called us to bring our drones to combat a fungal infection threatening his 80-hectare wheat farm. Armed with our T30 drones, a team of skilled pilots, and an agronomist, we delivered a flawless job.
A Nostalgic Reflection
This trip brought back vivid memories of my early farming days. I recalled carrying a 15L capacitor knapsack sprayer for six grueling hours just to spray 1 hectare of crops. I also remembered running around the fields, banging tins to scare away Quelea birds intent on feeding on wheat grains. These were difficult yet necessary tasks, and they shaped my understanding of the challenges farmers face.
Transforming Farming with Technology
Today, those manual methods are being replaced with advanced technologies like drone spraying. Bringing this cutting-edge technology to the community that shaped me is not just a responsibility—it is a privilege that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
At FarmBuzz, we’re committed to making farming smarter and more efficient. Using drone technology to address fungal infections or protect crops from pests is just one way we’re revolutionizing agriculture. For me, this journey back to Macheke is a testament to how far we’ve come and a reminder of the importance of giving back to the communities that inspire us.
Together, let’s create a brighter future for agriculture.
